This medal is obscure in the West, but should become increasingly available.

History

The medal was conferred upon Chongryon (Korean Residents of Japan Association) members in good standing during the organization's 20th Anniversary since it's founding in 1955.

It is the opinion of the contributor that the medal is not as obscure as previously believed within the collecting community. At the Chongryon's height in the 1970's there were just over 500,000 active members. The contributor, located in Asia, has over time collected a dozen of these medals and believes their availability will increase over time as the original recipients pass and more medals are released from their estates.
