History

The Guard Troop Bug Star was founded by Major Kobe von Koppenfels on February 1, 1919 with the permission of the Generalkommando of the Landwehrkorps. It was conferred upon all volunteers who served for a month in the Freikorps Bug and rendered irreproachable service. It was worn on the left breast.

The badges were awarded from 1919 to 1923, and there were approximately 6,500 badges produced by Paul Meybauer, Berlin alone. The total number of badges manufactured is unknown.

The award is generally hollow-stamped. It is in the form of an eight-sided, silvered star with a round centre of crossed swords on blue enamel, around it the inscription "SCHUTZTRUPPE BUG", and around this a laurel wreath in green enamel.

The badges may feature a pinback or screwback fastening device.
