History
The George III Coronation Medal was instituted in 1761 and distributed to the crowd during the Coronation ceremony of King George III on September 22, 1761. Gold Medals were presented to members of the royal family, Silver Medals were distributed among members of parliament and esteemed peers of the royal household, and Bronze Medals were thrown into the crowd. It is estimated that 858 Gold Medals and 800 Silver Medals were issued.
The Medal features the reverse Latin inscription which translates to "Crowned as the Country Rejoices" or "For His Rejoicing Country."
