History
The Military Medal was established by Decree on August 6, 1993. It is awarded to Non-Commissioned Officers and enlisted men of the Burkinabé Army, Air Force, and Gendarmerie for devotion to the nation through long and faithful service of at least 14 years.
A number of exceptions may affect the service requirements. For example, a wound incurred during military service may count towards 1 year of the requirement, and service in military campaigns may count as extended terms. Recipients may be eligible after 12 years of service with 1 war service citation, or after 10 years with 2 war service citations, or after 8 years with 3 war service citations. It may also be awarded posthumously to Officers who died in combat or security missions.
The obverse inscription translates to “Honour, Discipline, Unity,” and the reverse inscription translates to “Burkina Faso, Military Medal.”
