History
The Order of Central African Merit is conferred upon Central Africans in recognition of meritorious service rendered in the domains of humanitarian aid, economics, and social services. It may also be awarded to foreigners, but only under exceptional circumstances.
Every member of the Order is received as a Knight, and promotions may only be made after 6 years spent in the lower grade.
The Grand Officer was added as a grade in 1961. It is identical to the Officer, however only the Grand Officer is worn with a Breast Star. The reverse inscription translates to "Central African Merit." There is a limit of 5 Grand Officers.
