This Medal was permanently discontinued in 1970 when it was superseded by the Order of Ivorian Merit.
There are two versions of the medal that differ in engraving. The obverse inscription of the first version translates to "Republic of Côte d'Ivoire," while the obverse inscription of the of second version translates to "Medal of National Merit." The second version has an additional reverse inscription that translates to "Union, Discipline, Labour."
