History

This Order was conferred only upon the President of Ghana.

It was instituted by President John Kufour. It is the highest national decoration. There is criticism surrounding the creation of this Order; it has been suggested that eligibility it too limited and that it is a vanity title. In addition, it has been suggested that the order is illegal because it was instituted by executive ordinance versus parliamentary motion. This order was discontinued in 2010.
