History

The Order of Patriotic Merit is conferred upon Burundian military personnel in recognition of distinguished service and acts of bravery, and upon Burundian civilians in recognition of life-saving actions. It may also be awarded posthumously.

The Bronze Medal is awarded to Non-Commissioned Officers for 2 years of service, and to soldiers for 5 years of service.
