History

This medal was conferred upon Boer military veterans who fought in the Anglo Boer War (1899-1902).

It is also known as the "Medalje voor de Anglo-Boeroorlog". It was officially designated "De Zuidafrikaanse Republiek- en Oranje Vrijstaat Oorlogsmedalje", which is translated to "The South African Republic and Orange Free State War Medal".

Neither side of the medal is considered as the reverse. They both feature the same inscription.
