History

This medal was conferred upon members of the Bophuthatswana Defence Force in recognition of distinguished service and devoted service.

The Bophuthatswana Defence Force was established in 1977 and was assimilated into the South African National Defence Force in April 1994; therefore, Bophuthatswana Defence Force decorations and medals became discontinued in April 1994.
