History

This medal was conferred upon members of the South African Railways Police in recognition of efficient, meritorious service in support of national security.

The South African Railways Police was established in 1916 and assimilated into the South African Police in January 1986; therefore, South African Railways Police decorations and medals became discontinued in 1986.
