History

This medal was conferred upon members of the South African Railways Police Force for exceptionally meritorious service or heroism or for 30 years of flawless service and conduct. It was discontinued in 1986.

There are two versions of this medal which differ in terms of composition and design. The original (1966 - 1980) was a 5-pointed silver star; the second design (1980 - 1986) was a gilt octagon.
