History

The Bartolomeu de Gusmão Medal was awarded to recognize Brazilian Air Force personnel and civilian personnel of the Aeronautics Ministry, who have rendered outstanding services and have distinguished themselves from others.

In order to receive this medal while being military personnel the individual must have formerly been awarded the Military Medal, and civil personnel must have contributed at least 10 years of service.
