History
The Second Medal for Uruguay (Medalha da Campanha do Uruguai) was established by Imperial Decree on May 8, 1865 for the army, and on June 28, 1865 for the navy. It was founded to reward Brazilian ans Uruguayan troops who participated in the Uruguayan Campaign of 1865 where Brazil invaded, and annexed, Montevideo and declared war against Paraguay from there.
The Medal was authorized with three grades according to the rank of the recipient. The Gold Medal was awarded to Generals, the Silver Medal was conferred upon Officer, while the Bronze Medal was for enlisted men.
