The WWII War Cross was instituted by the Brazilian government in 1944 to recognize individuals who have rendered outstanding services that have distinguished them from others, serving Brazil in the Armed Forces, civilians who volunteered as well as, Allied Nations personnel who assisted to the Brazilian war effort during the Second World War.

The Medal was authorized with a unique grade.
