History
The Cross of Aeronautical Merit was instituted by decree on July 18, 1984. It is awarded to recognize individuals, Chilean and foreign, who have contributed outstanding services to the Chilean Air Force or to other aviation associations.
The Cross was authorized with five grades: Grand Cross, Merit Cross, Distinguished Flight Cross, Distinguished Service Cross, and Honor Bar.
The Merit Cross is awarded to Officers of the Chilean armed forces and official government servants.
Between the years 1984-1985 the medal was awarded on a yellow ribbon with dark blue stripes along the edges, and a stripe along the middle. In 1986 the ribbon was amended, and consisted of a dark blue ribbon with thin white stripes along the outer edges of the ribbon.
