The Star for the War of the Pacific (Estrella por la Guerra del Pacífico), a.k.a. Star for the Bolivian and Peruvian Campaign (Estrella por la Campaña de Bolivia y Perú), was authorized by the Chilean government on September 1, 1880. It was founded to reward Chilean and allied military personnel who took part of the War of the Pacific between 1879 and 1883.
The Star was authorized with three classes that denoted the rank of the recipient: I, II, and III Classes. The Star was usually awarded along with the clasps of the battles where the recipient participated during the war. The clasps were:
