History

The Chaco Campaign Medal (Medalla del Chaco) was established by the government of Argentina in 1888, in recognition of Generals, Officers, and men, members of whether the National Guard, the Naval Army, and the Army, as well as Governors and heads of Provinces, who taking part in the last expedition through Cacho province between 1870-1884.

The composition of the Medal denotes the rank of the recipient. The gold Medal was awarded to Generals, while the silver Medal was to Officers, and the copper Medal to enlisted men.

The government of Argentina authorized a silver clasp for each completed campaign, there are;

“EXPEDICIÓN 1870” (Expedition of 1870); lead by Lieutenant Colonel Napoleón Uriburu at Jujuy.

“EXPEDICIÓN 1876”; lead by Lieutenant Colonel Napoleón Uriburu at Bermejo River.

“EXPEDICIÓN 1880”; lead by Mayor Fontana at Corrientes.

“EXPEDICIÓN 1881”; lead by Colonel Bosh and Commander Solá at Corrientes.

“EXPEDICIÓN 1883”; Colonel Bosh, Colonel Obligado and Commander Ibazeta.

“EXPEDICIÓN 1884”; lead by General D. Benjamin Victorica.

The Medal features an obverse inscription that translates to "Cacho Campaign," and a reverse inscription that translates to “The Argentine Nation.”
