History

The Medal for the Liberators of Corrientes (Medalla para los Liberadores de Corrientes) was established in Argentina by the General Congress of Corrientes on September 19, 1843. It was awarded to unitarian Colonel Joaquín Madariaga and his troops who expelled an imposed federalist governor, and replace him at August 30, 1843.

The composition of the Medal denotes the rank of the recipient. The gold Medal with diamond was awarded to Colonel Madariaga, the Gold Medal was awarded to Generals, the Silver Medal was awarded to Officers, and the Brass Medal to enlisted men.

The date of the obverse inscription refers to the day when Colonel Madariaga was elected.

The Medal features an obverse inscription that can be translated to "He Released the Fatherland August 30, 1843” and a reverse inscription that translates to “Province of Corrientes.”
