History


The Military Expeditionary Guerrilla Army Medal (Medalla a las Partidas de Guerrilla) was established by General San Martin in 1822, in appreciation of an irregular Peruvian army that faced to Spanish garrison into the mountains, and kept them away of Lima.

The composition of the Medal denotes the rank of the recipient; the Gold Medal was awarded to Generals while the Silver Medal to enlisted men.

The Medal features an obverse inscription that can be translated to "The Courage is my Motto," and a reverse inscription that can be translated to “To the Military Expeditionary Guerrilla Army.”
