History

The Medal for Assistance for Infected Canaries (Medalla Canarios a Punto de Perecer) was established by the government of Argentina on September 17, 1836. It was awarded to those who taking part of the assistance for fever-infected of a military division in 1836.

The Medal features an obverse inscription that can be translated to "He Saved his Colleagues with a very high Risk of his Life," and a reverse inscription that can be translates to "Canaries on Point of Perish."

The police Chief D. Bernardo Victoria and the Doctor D. Justo Garcia Valdez were awarded with the Gold Medal. Doctor D. Francisco Mier, priest D.Pedro Antonio Martinez, D. Manuel Cuestas, Lieutenant D. Paulino Camargo de Medina, D. Lorenzo Laguna, D. Angel Donado, D. Facundo Larrosa, D.N. Heredia and D. José Acosta (who died in service) were awarded with the Silver Medal.

In total, two Gold Medals and ten Silver Medals were manufactured.
