History

The Medal for San Juan and Rioja Earthquake (Medalla por el Terremoto de San Juan Y Rioja) was awarded in recognition of those who offered assistance in the aftermath of an earthquake in Argentina on October, 1894.

The earthquake's epicenter was at San Juan, north-western of Argentina, and it had an 8.6-8.9 of magnitude. It is the strongest earthquake in Argentina since records began.

The Medal features an obverse inscription that translates to “Earthquake of San Juan and Rioja,” and a reverse inscription that translates to “Assistance 3 November 1894.”
