The Medal for the Surrender of Uruguayana (Medalla por la Rendición de Uruguayana) was established by the Empire of Brazil on September 20, 1865. It was awarded to Argentinian and Brazilian troops who defeated Paraguayan forces at the city of Uruguayana on August 30, 1865.
This campaign was led by Argentine Generals Flores, and Mitre. This Medal was conferred to military and government personnel, as well as civilians from Argentina and Brazil.
The Triple Alliance War was a South American conflict between Paraguay and the Triple Alliance of Argentina, the Empire of Brazil, and Uruguay from 1864 to 1870 .
The Composition of the Medal denotes the rank of the recipient; the Gold Medal was conferred to the Imperial Family, Ministers of War, Generals and Chiefs. The Silver Medal was awarded to Officials, secretaries, and Magistrates while the Copper Medal was for civilians and enlisted men.
This Medal features a reverse inscription that translates to “September 18, 1865.”
