History

The Medal of Santiago del Estero (Medalla por la Batalla de Santiago del Estero) was instituted in Argentina by the Congress of Tucamán on February 4, 1817. It was awarded in recognition to those who helped to restore peace in Santiago del Estero after an uprising in 1816, led by Juan Francisco Borges.

It was awarded to the members of the Cabildo, and for some members of the Catholic church as well as some secular people.

The Medal features an inscription that translates to "Love for the Order."
