History
The Pago Largo Medal (Medalla de Pago Largo) was authorized by General Manuel Rosas on April 26, 1839. It was awarded to General Pascual Echagüe and the federalist troops under his command, who defeated to Governor Genaro Berón de Astrada and his unitarian army at the Province of Corrientes on March 31, 1839.
The composition of this Medal denotes the rank of the recipient; the Gold and Silver Medals were conferred upon Officers, while the bronze Medal was awarded to enlisted men.
This Medal features an obverse inscription that can be translated to "Brave Defender in the Field of Pago Largo, Freedom of the Argentine Confederation, and the American Independence,” and a reverse inscription that can be translated to “March 31, 1839 the Government of the Confederation of Argentina to Patriotism and Courage.”
