History

The Medal for the End of the Paraguayan War (Medalla Conmemorativa por la Terminación de la Campaña contra el Gobierno de Paraguay) was instituted by the government of Argentina on September 28, 1866.

It was awarded in recognition of the heroism of those Argentinians who fought against Paraguay at the War of the Triple Alliance (1864-1870.)

The composition of this Medal denotes the rank of the recipient; the Gold Medal was conferred upon Generals, the Silver Medal was awarded to Officers, and the Bronze Medal was for enlisted men.

The Medal features an obverse inscription that can be translated to "Argentinian Army Operating against Paraguay ," and a reverse inscription that can be translated to “To Courage and Constancy, the Nation Gratefully.”
