History

The Star for the Defense of Salta (Estrella por la Defensa Salta) was established in Argentina by the government of the United Provinces on November 28, 1817. It was awarded to those who participated in the defense of Salta against royalists forces in 1817.

The composition of the Star denotes the rank of the recipient; the gold Star was awarded to Generals, while the gold- and-silver Star was awarded to Officers.

The Salta Star features an obverse inscription that translates to "To Merit, in Salta the year 1817."
