History

The Medal for the Birth of the Supreme Chief (Medalla Conmemorativa por el Nacimiento del Jefe Supremo) was authorized by the Bolivian government in 1857. It was founded in commemoration of the birthday of Mariano Melgarejo, president of Bolivia (1854-1872).

It is not clear who was the recipient for this Medal.

It is limited information regarding to the foundation of this Medal.

This Medal features an obverse inscription that translates to "For the Birth Day of the Supreme Chief," and a reverse inscription that translates to "Souvenir of the People of Potosi."
