The Medal for the Defenders of Pisagua (Medalla para los Defensores de Pisagua) was authorized by the Bolivian Senate in 1907, in recognition of the heroic actions of those who fought against Chilean forces at Pisagua on November 2, 1879.
The Battle of Pisagua was the first battle of the Pacific War.
The composition denotes the rank of the recipient. The gold Medal was awarded to Generals and Officers, while the silver Medal was for enlisted men.
This Medal features an obverse inscription that translates to "National Senate 1907," and a reverse inscription that translates to "To the Defenders of the Fatherland at Pisagua on November 2, 1879."
