The Medal of Bolivar (Medalla de Bolivar) was authorized by the new independent government of Bolivia in 1825, in commemoration of the efforts and courage of the revolutionary hero Simón Bolivar.
Simón Bolivar (1783-1830) was a military and political leader in Latin American during the Wars of Independence, who led the most important battles for the independence of Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Venezuela and Peru.
