Pedro II authorized the Medal of Bravery for Paraguay (Medalha a Bravura Militar) in 1868 to reward the Brazilian military personnel who displayed acts of bravery during operations against Paraguay during the Triple Alliance War.
A clasp was placed on the ribbon either with the year or the battle when the act of bravery was displayed. The clasps were:
