The Order of Merit for Communication (Ordem do Mérito das Comunicações) was established by presidential decree on March 15, 1982, and it has been modified several times since then. The Order is ranked twelfth in order of precedence in the country.
It is awarded to recognize national and foreign individuals who have contributed exceptional service to communications in Brazil, and have become deserving of recognition by the Government.
the Order's grades are Grand Cross limited to 50, Grand Officer limited to 70, Commander limited to 150, Officer limited to 200, and Knight limited to 300.
Those who are either, the Vice-President of the Republic, President of Senate, Supreme Court, or Chamber of Deputies, a State Minister, Admiral, Marshal, Governor of States of the Union and Federal District, generals of the Army, foreign Ambassadors, Lieutenant Brigadier or individuals of equal grade, are eligible to receive the rank of the Grand Cross.
