The Order of Merit for Labour (Ordem do Mérito do Trabalho) was established by decree on November 17, 1965. In order of precedence, it is the ninth-highest award.

It is awarded to recognize domestic and foreign employers, employees and civil servants for labor productivity, union organization, job creation, job safety, professional training, and social security.

The Order's grades are Grand Cross limited to 50, Grand Officer limited to 75, Commander limited to 100, Officer limited to 150, and Knight limited to 250.
