History
The Aeronautical Merit Order (Orden al Mérito Aeronáutico) was established in 1976 by the military junta that ruled Uruguay at that time. It was awarded to civilians and military personnel, both national and foreign, in recognition of outstanding services to the country's aviation.
The Order's grades were five, i.e., Grand Cross. Grand Officer, Commander, Officer, and Knight. The military division's awards depicted crossed swords on the angles.
The Order was officially rescinded on March 6, 1985. However, some sources claim that the Order has never ceased to be granted.
The Order is currently awarded with three grades, I, II, and III Classes, and its design remains the same. More researching is needed to confirm this information.
This Order features the same design as the Military Merit Order of Lieutenants of Artigas design.
