The Order of Henri Pittier was established in Venezuela on August 5, 1974. It is conferred upon individuals either nationals or foreigners who have shown merit in the study, education, and the dissemination of knowledge related to the conservation of renewable natural resources and agricultural research.
The Order consists of three grades: I Class, II Class, and III Class. The Order has no breast star.
I Class is awarded on a full-length sash ribbon.
The Order was name after Henri F. Pittier (1857-1950) who was a Swiss botanist and naturalist, who founded the System of National Parks of Venezuela. He is considered as the pioneer of the botanical studies in Venezuela.
