The Canadian Volunteer Service Medal for Korea was instituted in 1991 to recognize former members of the Canadian Armed Forces who served between June 27, 1950 and July 27, 1954.
The eligibility to be awarded the Medal was as follows:
a) The person was in the Armed Forces duringthe period of June 27, 1950 and July 27, 1954
b) They must have served in the qualifying area; Korea, Japan, Okinawa, and Korean Waters
c) During this service period, the indvidual,
i) was with an army unit/formation in Korea for at least one day
ii) actively served for at least 28 days on board a ship/craft in the above mentioned qualifying area
iii) flew one sortie over the above mentioned qualifying area, or:
iv) accumulated a minimum of 28 days of service in the above mentioned qualifying area
The Medal may be awarded posthumously. There are no ribbon bars presented with this award.
The obverse features the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II inscribed with [ELIZABETH II DEI GRATIA REGINA/CANADA]. The reverse is inscribed with [KOREA/VOLUNTEER/1950-1954/VOLONTAIRE/COREE].
