History

The Ontario Medal for Firefighters Bravery was established in 1976 and presented on behalf of the Ontario Government to recognize courageous and brave actions performed in the line of duty by members of the Ontario firefighting force. The medal is intended to both acknowledge the force's efforts and encourage individuals to pursue excellence in their service.

Recipients are eligible to receive the Medal if they are members of the Ontario firefighting forces and are endorsed by their superiors. The medal may be conferred posthumously.

The obverse features a trillium, symbolic flames, and a single maple leaf in each corner of the cross. The reverse is numbered.

Each recipient receives a provincial scroll and a miniature of the medal. Recipients are also eligible to receive a Canadian Bravery Decoration.

There is no limit to the number of medals that can be issued per year.
