History

The Cross for Puebla (Cruz y Placa de Puebla) was established in Mexico in recognition of the military personnel who defeated the French army during the Third Battle for Puebla on April 2, 1867, a key victory of the Mexican army during the Second French Intervention (1862-1867).

The Cross was authorized with three classes. I Class Cross in gold was conferred upon the highest ranks, while II Class Cross in silver was awarded to Officers, and III Class Cross in Bronze to enlisted men.

It was authorized a Collar with Breast Star to reward to General Porfirio Díaz for commanding the Mexican forces that took the city and defeated the imperial French army.

The Cross features an obverse inscription that can be translated to "Award for Military Courage," and a reverse inscription that can be translated to "He Defeated the Defenders of Puebla on April 2."
