History

The Cross for Queretaro (Cruz y Placa de Querétaro) was established by the Mexican government in 1894 in recognition of the military personnel who captured the city of Queretaro on May 15, 1867. This victory was essential for the victory of the Mexican forces over the French invading army during the Second French Intervention in Mexico (1863-1867). The Cross was authorized several years after the event.

The Cross was authorized with three classes that denoted the rank of the recipient. I Class Cross was conferred upon the highest ranks, II Class Cross was awarded to Officers and, the III Class Cross was for enlisted men.

Some resources claim that a Collar with breast star was authorized to reward General Mariano Escobedo who command the army during the siege.

The Cross features an obverse inscription that can be translated to "He Won in Queretaro in 1867," and a reverse inscription that can be translated to "The Fatherland Grateful."
