History

The Cross for Tamaulipas (Cruz de Tamaulipas) was authorized by the state of Tamaulipas, Mexico on October 22, 1891. It was founded to reward the military personnel who fought along the Texas border under Generals Mariano Escobedo and Gerónimo Treviño at the Battle of Santa Gertrudris on June 16, 1866.

The Crosses were awarded in three classes that differ in their shapes; I Class Cross was conferred upon Generals; II Class Cross was awarded to Officers; and III Class Medal was for enlisted men.

The Crosses and Medal feature an obverse inscription that can be translated to "He Fought against French Intervention in the State of Tamaulipas," and reverse inscription that can be translated to "He Participated in the Battle of St. Gertrudis June 16, 1866."
