History

The Medal for the Defenders of Guadalajara (Medalla para los Defensores de Guadalajara) was instituted by the State of Jalisco in recognition of the military personnel, under the command of General Ramón Corona, in recognition of the brave defense of the city of Guadalajara against the local guerrillas, leading by Manuel Lozada, who attacked the city of Guadalajara on January 28, 1873.

The Medal consists of four grades that denotes the rank of the recipient. I Class Medal was awarded to Generals, while II Class Medal was awarded to Officers, and III Class Medal to enlisted men.

Jalisco authorized two different versions that differ in the inscription. It is not clear if the statutes either were authorized at the same time or not.

It was awarded a special I Class Medal to General Ramón Corona. However, it is not clear the features of this Medal.

The Medal features an obverse inscription that can be translated to "The State of Jalisco to the Defenders of the Society in January of 1873."
