Presumably, the Medal for Zacatecas (Medalla de Zacatecas) was instituted by the province of Zacateca in recognition of the military personnel who fought against Indian risings in this province displaying great courage.

The Medal features an obverse inscription that can be translated to "The Zacatecas to Valor."
