The Achievement Medal for Civilian Service was established by the Department of the Army on August 24, 1987. The Bronze Medal is awarded to civilian employees of the Department of the Army for noteworthy achievements that are of a lesser degree than that which is required to merit the Commander’s Award for Civilian Service. The Medal may be awarded for sustained superior service or achievement that includes the outstanding accomplishments of duties, initiatives in developing or improving operations, leadership and productivity, professional or public relations, and courage or competence during workplace emergencies.
