History

The Commander’s Award for Civilian Service was established by the Department of the Army on June 30, 1976. The Bronze Medal is awarded to Department of the Army civilian employees in recognition of commendable service, achievement, and a history of excellent performance. Eligible service must be of a lesser degree than that which is required to merit the Department of the Army Civilian Service Award, but which nevertheless still benefits the government. The Medal may be awarded for accomplishments in duties, initiative in developing and improving operations, leadership and productivity, and courage or competence during workplace emergencies.
