History

The Department of Defense Distinguished Civilian Service Award was originally created by the United States Department of War as the department’s highest civilian award. The Medal is awarded to career Department of Defense civilian employees in recognition of career service that involves exceptional devotion to duty and which contributes to the efficiency, economy or other Department of Defense operations.
