History
The NASA Outstanding Service Medal was established in 1959 and awarded to United States government employees who served in any capacity with NASA in recognition of notably outstanding service, skills, or acts of courage which has advanced the goals of NASA or the interests of the United States. Qualifying services may include technological or administrative contributions to NASA programs. Service must have been less than that required to merit the recognition of the NASA Distinguished Service Medal, but still distinguishing. The Silver Medal was discontinued in 1961. Until this date, only 2 awards of the Medal were made to Dr Edward R. Sharp and Dr H.J.E. Reid.
