History

This Order was originally founded by King Jigme Singye Wangchuck as the highest military award conferred within the Bhutanese honour system.

The Order was expanded in 2008 by King Jigme Khesar Namgyal Wangchuck to include a Breast Star, and it became the second highest award in the honour system for national service.

It is also known as Order of the Victory of the Thunder Dragon.
