The Independence Medal, 1947 (Tamgha-e-Istiqlal) was instituted by Nawab Sir Sadiq Muhammad Khan V Abbasi. The Medal was awarded in commemoration of the attainment of Bahawalpur's Independence from Great Britain in 1947.

The obverse features a Persian or Urdu inscription which translates to "By the Grace of God Sadiq Mohammed Abbasi V Ruler of God Gifted Kingdom of Bahawalpur." The reverse translates to "Oh God Success is from the God and Victory is Near Oh Mohammed."
