The Railway Good Service Medal was instituted by Maharaja Sayajirao III in 1936 to commemorate the 16th anniversary of Maharaja Sayajirao's accession to the throne. The Medal was awarded to staff of the Gaekwar Baroda State Railway in recognition of good service. Other services may also be eligible for the award. The Medal may also be known as the Gaekwar's Baroda State Railway Diamond Jubilee Medal.
