History

This medal was conferred in commemoration of Japan's involvement in the Boxer Rebellion. It was awarded specifically to the members of the 5th Division of the Imperial Japanese Army and Navy.

The obverse suspension bar features Japanese characters, which translate to "China Incident". The obverse face features Japanese characters, which translate to "Medal for Military service". The reverse features Japanese characters, which translate to "Great Japanese Empire" and "Meiji 33rd Year".
